AGS "0" Hearts and Arrows

heart and Arrows Diamonds

There are some cutters who will go the extra mile to make an AGS "0" exhibit a natural phenomena which can be viewed through something called a fantasy scope or Hearts & Arrows viewer. The phenomena are perfectly formed arrows when viewing a diamond through its crown in the fantasy scope and perfectly formed hearts when viewing the stone through its pavilion. Here's what a fantasy scope (or hearts and arrows viewer) looks like.

The diamond about to be viewed is an AGS "0" cut. Is it a hearts and arrows? Only this viewer can tell you for sure. Here's what the pattern looks like when viewed through the crown and the pavilion.

Note how perfectly all the arrows and all the hearts are formed and how they are all symmetrically the same. You can only get this with perfect proportions and perfect symmetry. There may be times in various stones you can get some kind of a pattern going on but not like this.

These diamonds are such a rarity in cut quality that they represent less than 1% of the diamonds on today's market. They exhibit intense fire and overall brilliancy that are unmatched by most diamonds on the market. Under direct light conditions such as the sun or halogen lights you can expect to see intense flashes such as the diamonds below.

The diamond on the left is a good cut diamond but the intensity of brilliance and fire is much greater on the Hearts & Arrows diamond on the right. You can witness the beauty of the perfect proportions and symmetry in these diamonds without a special viewer (although the viewer enhances the image). To get an idea of what I'm talking about I've been able to capture for you what this looks like in the following picture.

This is a typical rare H&A diamond like we feature at our store versus what is commonly purchased in the marketplace. Note the drastic difference in appearance. One has beautiful uniform three-dimensional symmetry, while the other one is chaotic and much more hazy.

This is Interesting...

Most round, brilliant-cut or fancy-shaped diamonds possess 58 carefully angled flat surfaces, called facets, whose placement will affect the fire, brilliance and ultimate beauty of your diamond.
